The Different Types of Keywords

Keywords can be classified into three main groups, single, multiple, and theme keywords. These are your raw materials that the SEO or Search Engine Optimization will use to bring people to your site. Using keyword research or selection can help you find out which words your audience has used recently so you can use those words in your site. This will generate more hits and boost business. You can choose to have a single word or 2-3 words for generating a hit. Or, you can use themes or multiple words or phrases. It is a personal preference. Just make sure the words you use are prime hit targets to the audience you are listing for. Looking at the three main categories might help you to see what will work best for you and your site.

Single Word Keywords

A keyword of single word is very competitive. It generates a lot of traffic but it also drums up a lot of other sites and is much broader for the customer. This type is considered generic and targets the general public, not necessarily the specific audience you are looking for. This may be a problem if you receive many hits but no one who is looking is buying. More than likely it won’t be what they were truly looking for. So, the good news is you have a lot of traffic but the bad news is that most of the people you actually want to come to your site type in more than one keyword into their search engine. This way they are assured to find the sites they truly are looking for. Single word keywords make great theme word that you can use multiple times in your page. You need to use them at least five times to make them stand out.

An example would be using the keyword “services”. This will generate all types of sites for the reader, who will get anything from products and services, government services, medical services, and many more. This seems like a great idea, but in fact, it can become so confusing for the person who has generated all these sites and has to fish through them all just to find you. More than likely they will just give up.

Multiple Word Keywords

Using several words as your key words will allow you to generate audience specification. This will get you in the top position on a search result listing and make you much more accessible to your customers. You will be likely to make more sales using more than one keyword for your SEO. Multiple or specific keywords target a specific set of people, not just a searcher who just plugged in one keyword. This will help you link your page to a specific audience and generate real business not just traffic. This still allows some of the general public to find you and buys new business as well. This is the most effective method of utilizing a SEO.

Theme-based Keywords

This is a tool for targeting a highly specific audience. This will put you at the top of the search engine list and generate quick sales. Theme based or conceptual keywords will generates search results for all words in the theme. This will attract high traffic of a targeted audience and is a great method. It will allow your potential client to find you easily and under many different keywords and search engines. These add quality to the search by providing a rich text keyword theme that will improve you overall results and provide your clients with a targeted search result listing. The theme keywords will be used in each page of the site and will focus on a particular topic. This should coincide with what you are promoting and not be too repetitive.

When choosing key words make sure that no matter what style you use they are catchy and about what you are selling. You don’t want to fill up your site with a bunch of junk that people will find messy. This will lead to a decrease not increase of sales. Pick words that include the product and some of its best features. This will ensure that when someone is looking for what you have they can find it easily. It will also make sure that you will be on the top or near the top on the search engine list.
